June 14, 2013 – A 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake Stuck ENE of Flying Fish Cove, Near Christmas Island: The quake struck at 4:47PM (GMT) at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles) on 13 June. The location, along the Java Trench, can clearly be seen on the map above.

These two countries have seen the largest, most deadly earthquakes of the 21st century. The infamous Japanese earthquake, on September 11, 2011 was one of the most photographed and filmed quakes ever recorded. The tsunami it generated was truly spectacular and reflects the tremendous power of earthquakes. The 9.0 quake was second only to the Indonesia tremor, in terms of magnitude.
