September 8, 2012 A 6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Struck Near Nabire, Indonesia: The quake occurred 56km (35mi) WNW of Nabire, Indonesia; 277km (172mi) SSE of Manokwari, Indonesia: 370km (230mi) NE of Tual, Indonesia: 489km (304mi) ESE of Sorong, Indonesia; and 1,122km (697mi) NNE of Darwin, Australia.

It was 10:51AM (GMT, +00.00) and 7:51PM (UTC, +09:00) at epicenter.

Pictured above, is a closer look at today’s tremor. The Australia-Pacific plate boundary is over 4,000 km long on the northern margin, from the Sunda (Java) trench in the west to the Solomon Islands in the east. The eastern section is over 2,300 km long, extending west from northeast of the Australian continent and the Coral Sea until it intersects the east coast of Papua New Guinea. The boundary is dominated by the general northward subduction of the Australia plate.
