A 6.2 Magnitude Earthquake Struck the Kermadec Islands Less than Two Hours Ago.

January 28, 2012 – A 6.2 Magnitude Earthquake Struck the Kermadec Islands: The 6.2 trembler occurred at 12:42PM in New York and 9:42AM in Los Angeles. It was 5:42AM (January 29th) at the epicenter – because of the International Date Line. The quake struck at a depth of 28 kilometers ( 17 miles). The Kermadec Islands (KI) are north-east of New Zealand and are shown by the orange line on the map.
The tremor was 29 miles east of Raoul Island, KI; 169 miles NNE of L’Esperance Rock, KI; 581 miles SSW of Nuku’Alofa, Tonga; and 688 miles northeast of Auckland, New Zealand (see map).
