January 1, 2012 – Captain of my Soul:
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever Gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeoning’s of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
By William Ernest Henley
English Poet – (1849 to 1903)
Tomorrow starts the dreaded year 2012, when many people fear catastrophe and apocalyptic changes. But fear brings what you most fear into your life, by the law of attraction. On the other hand, a positive attitude brings good things into your life. Stay in the present moment for the past is dead and gone forever and the future only God knows. Keep these thoughts in mine throughout the year:
”Change is as inexorable as time, yet nothing meets with more resistance.” Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881), British Prime Minister.
“Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” Lou Holtz (1937-Present) Retired Football Coach – Notre Dame (1986-1996).
“Happiness depends upon ourselves.” Aristotle (384BC-322BC), Greek Philosopher.
”Joy is not in things; it is in us.” Richard Wagner (1813-1883), Composer and Conductor.
“Laughter is a tranquilizer with no side effects.” Arnold Glasow (1905-1998); Writer, Publisher and Humorist.
“Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.” John Quincy Adams (1767-1848), Sixth President of the United States (1825-1829).
“Wisdom is the daughter of experience.” Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519); Painter, Sculptor, Architect, Inventor and Writer.
“Religion is simple, truth and love are the way, union with God is the goal.” Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948); Attorney, Political Leader, Philosopher and Spiritualist.
“I am the master of my fate; I am the Captain of my soul.”
