A 6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Struck Southwestern Russia, Less than one hour Ago.

December 27, 2011 – A 6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Struck Southwestern Siberia, Russia: The quake occurred at 10:22PM at the epicenter. It was 10:22AM in New York, 9:22AM in Chicago, 8:22AM in Denver and 7:22AM in Los Angeles. The tremor was a relatively shallow 7 kilometers (4 miles), therefore, their may have been some damage in the closest town, Kyzyl.
The tremor was located 59 miles east of Kyzyl, Russia (see map); 208 miles northeast of Ulaangom, Mongolia; 227 miles ESE of Abakan, Russia; and 2,326 miles ENE of Moscow, Russia.
Most of the major earthquakes, in Russia, occur along the Kuril Island chain; which is south of the Kamchatka Peninsula in the far western part of the largest country on earth. Therefore, this is unusual to have a fairly large quake strike in southwestern Siberia.
