August 16, 2011 – – London Riots Spread to Rest of Country: It was fascinating, and a little worrying, to follow this week’s news on Twitter. The timeline can be observed via the trending hash tags – we went from “London riots,” to “Manchester riots and to “UK riots” frighteningly quickly. In other words, the social and political unrest in Britain is spreading throughout the Country (see map above).
The police are undermanned and need help from the army (which they aren’t getting). On top of that, the police budget is going to be cut for lack of funding. This will only add fuel to the riot bonfire.
Many British expats are ashamed and shocked at the usually calm and controlled British persona going off the deep end like this. It only points out the seething pool of unrest and discontent underneath the calm exterior that was England for so many years.
A lot of people say the UK has gone to pot; they may be right. The UK is a great country, having its international reputation ruined by the rioters. London isn’t Watts in Los Angeles, or so we thought. If it can happen in London, it can happen anywhere.
As the economic woes worsen in the World, expect this type of response. Economic riots, food riots, social unrest riots; all will be prevalent, and exponentially worsen, as we move toward Great Depression II. A World calamity of the first order, coming to you!
