6.4 Magnitude Earthquake – – Papua New Guinea

An earthquake struck early today near the North Coast of Papua New Guinea, Indonesia. At 6.4 magnitude it was big but not huge. This is another earthquake in the “Ring of Fire” zone. It may seem like their are more earthquakes than usual, however, according to the USGS it is probably due to the much larger number of seismic measuring stations, now sprinkled around the globe, that this appears so. According to their web-site (usgs.gov) the number of 7.0 earthquakes and larger has not significantly increased over the last 100 years. I may be the Master of Disaster, however, I want to be as truthful and accurate as possible too.
