October 6, 2012 – Want to get there or get away fast – Aventador is the Car for You: Lamborghini said its new Aventador LP700-4, just released at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show, is sold out for the first year. The base price is just under $400,000. Top speed is 217 MPH. Zero to 60 in 2.9 seconds.
In a statement announcing its year-end financial results, the Italian supercar arm of the Volkswagen Group noted that it has “already sold more than 12 months’ production of (the) new V12 model, deliveries started in the second half of 2012.”
Lamborghini also said it lost money again in 2011, with revenues dropping slightly from $391 million in 2009 to $377 million. Global vehicle sales also dropped, from 1,515 units in 2009 to 1,302 last year, with China rising to become Lamborghini’s second-largest global market behind the U.S.
The company said it expects vehicle sales and revenue to increase this year, with the introduction of the Aventador. Lamborghini said the sales decline in 2011 was due in part to the phase-out last May of the Murcielago, which is being replaced by the Aventador.
CEO Stephan Winkelmann said: “We see a slow but steady recovery of the market, and we will benefit from this. The extraordinary response to the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 is the best proof that our vision is right.”
Lamborghini also is running out production of the Gallardo, with deliveries of the final variant — the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante — to begin this spring.
