August 27, 2012 – A Powerful 7.3 Magnitude Earthquake Struck Off the Coast of El Salvador: The quake struck at 10:47PM local time (August 26th). It was 4:37AM (August 27th) in London (GMT), 12:37AM in New York, 11:37PM (August 26th) in Chicago, 10:37PM in Denver and 9:37PM in Los Angeles. The tremor occurred at a depth of 20 kilometers (13 miles). Tsunamis of less than a foot have hit the coast of El Salvador approximately ten minutes after the quake.
The quake happened 74 miles south of Usulután, El Salvador; 86 miles SSW of San Miguel, 86 miles SSW of La Union and 105 miles SSE of San Salvador.
